CENTCOM Chief Meets USS Abraham Lincoln Crew

(MENAFN) The head of U.S. Central Command paid a visit on Saturday to the USS Abraham Lincoln as the aircraft carrier passed through the Arabian Sea as part of a planned deployment rotation.

Adm. Brad Cooper met with sailors and personnel aboard the nuclear-powered carrier alongside special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, CENTCOM said in an official statement.

“I join the American people in expressing our incredible pride in the Sailors and Marines of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group,” said Cooper. “Their dedication to the mission and professionalism are on full display here in the Middle East as they demonstrate U.S. military readiness and strength.”

Witkoff noted that he had spoken with the pilot who, on Tuesday, shot down an Iranian drone that moved toward the carrier "without clear intent."

"Proud to stand with the men and women who defend our interests, deter our adversaries, and show the world what American readiness and resolve look like, on watch every day," Witkoff said on US social media company X.

A day earlier, Witkoff and Kushner were in Muscat, the capital of Oman, holding indirect discussions with Iran as tensions escalated due to an expanded U.S. military presence in the Persian Gulf and repeated warnings of possible military action from President Donald Trump.

The USS Abraham Lincoln began its deployment in November, initially operating across the Indo-Pacific before reaching the Middle East in January.

According to the statement, the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group includes the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln; the embarked command elements of Carrier Strike Group 3, Destroyer Squadron 21, and Carrier Air Wing 9; guided-missile destroyers USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. (DDG 121), USS Spruance (DDG 111), and USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112); as well as more than 60 fixed-wing and rotary aircraft.
